Spring Is The Best Time To Start Your Diet
Spring is a great time of the year, nature is starting to come to life and we all start to emerge from the laziness of winter to take stock of our lives and get ready for summer. Over winter we tend to avoid exercise because it is too cold to go out, so we tend to stay in and eat nice foods to cheer us up on the gloomy days. Spring is a great time to take a look at your health and decide what you need to do to improve it.
I think it is the best time to start a new diet for a few different reasons. The first is that as we emerge from winter then we start to eat more healthily anyway, fruits and vegetables start to come into season, and as the temperature increases then we tend to eat lighter meals. So with more access to fresh fruits and vegetables, and with everyone naturally gravitating towards smaller and healthier meals, then it makes your new diet that bit easier to follow.
The second big reason is sunlight, the days are getting longer and we tend to have more sunlight during the day too. This means you have more time to be outside doing things to burn calories, like going for a walk after dinner, or going for a jog before work, and you feel more energized by the increased sunlight.
As the temperature is increasing too, so it is not icy cold like winter, but not boiling hot like summer can be, then it is the perfect time for sports like baseball too. Get some friends together and organize a bit of friendly competition! Or you could go hiking for the weekend or just do some canoeing etc.
As I mentioned before then spring gives you access to a lot of seasonal fruits and vegetables, and often these will be grown locally too. This means you can stop in at your local farm shop and find fruit and vegetables which are not only probably cheaper, but are also fresh and packed full of nutrients, rather than being shipped half way around the world to get to your plate. With delicious, fresh food on offer then it makes losing weight a lot more tasty.
Springtime has this magical ability to make us feel better and want to start taking on new projects and clearing out old clutter, so is it any wonder that people want to start their diet at this time? Just like spring cleaning your house, then you should spring clean your health too and start eating more positively, and as you can see from what we discussed, it is a great time of the year to get started.
